GCGC Holiday Party

  • Wells Barn at Franklin Park Conservatory & Botanical Gardens 1777 East Broad Street Columbus, Ohio, 43205 United States (map)

Join us for our next GCGC meeting at Mid-Ohio Farm on the Hilltop, where the monthly gathering will be paired with a guided tour of one of Columbus's most innovative growing operations.

This farm specializes in controlled environment agriculture, growing fresh produce year round using hydroponic systems and automated technology. For gardeners used to working with soil, seasons, and weather, this is a chance to see a completely different approach to food production up close.

On the tour, you will see how crops grow without soil in nutrient rich water systems, how automated controls manage light, temperature, water, and nutrients, and how a controlled environment makes it possible to grow consistently regardless of what is happening outside. We will walk through how these systems work, what they make possible for local food access, and how the lessons from high tech growing can inform what any of us do in our own gardens.

Whether you are curious about hydroponics, interested in the technology behind modern farming, or just want to see fresh food growing in the middle of winter conditions, there is something here for every grower.

Come with your questions. This is a working farm and a learning space, and the tour is your chance to see it in action.
